One of the most prolific Romanian illustrators and one of my personal favorite. Val Munteanu was born on the 7th of February 1927, in Bucharest and died in 1996. His style is a consecrated trade mark, impossible to misplace.
His graphic presentations and illustrations received many prestigious awards: the Gold Medal for graphic presentation, the Award for Book Illustration at "The Most Beautiful Books of the Year" National Competition, granted by The Culture and Socialist Education Committee (Bucharest, 1969), the Honor Distinction for the best wide distribution book at the "L'Aigle d'or pour le meilleur livre" Contest (Nice, 1969), the Bronze Medal at The Annual World's Most Beautiful Books Contest (Leipzig, 1969), First Prize at the International Book Exhibition (Moscow, 1970), the Gold Medal at the World's Most Beautiful Children's Books Contest in the International Book Art Exhibition I.B.A. – Internationale Buchkunst Ausstellung – (Leipzig, 1971).
"My father was a pioneer and a tireless creator (defying disease throughout his entire life), which marked several generations in a time when the books were our only unrestricted universe".
