Madalina Andronic is a Romanian illustrator I have recently came across. Her illustrations are very elegant and full of detail and there is an atmosphere of good taste through all that touches her hand. I love the way she employs Romanian folklore through out her artistic work.

In 2012 Vellant Publishing House launched the collection “Pasarea maiastra” (The Magic Bird), where traditional Romanian fairy tales are visually reinterpreted by contemporary Romanian artists. Among the first to appear in this collection is "Zana Zorilor" (The Fairy of Dawn") by Ioan Slavici, which takes place in nearly 80 pages beautifully illustrated by Madalina Andronic.

There was once a great and mighty emperor, whose kingdom was so large that no one knew where it began and where it ended. Some believed it was boundless, others said they dimly remembered having heard of old that the emperor had formerly engaged in war with his neighbors, some of whom had proved greater and more powerful, others smaller and weaker. One thing about this emperor everybody agreed upon: that he always laughed with his right eye and wept with his left. People vainly asked the reason why the emperor's eyes could not agree, or why they differed so entirely...."

Rényi Krisztina

Rényi Krisztina is a Hungarian illustrator. She is extraordinary. I love her use of colours and Golden Age evoking technique. She is among the best children illustrators I have came accross in Hungary.

Tollas Júlia

Tollas Júlia, A.

(Csombord, 1911. September 5. – Kolozsvár, 1991. December 25.) Transylvanian Romanian-Hungarian graphic designer and painter. András László painter's wife. 

 

Life and work  

She gratuated from the College of Fine Arts in Bucharest. In 1940 she was an art teacher for the Presbyterian Girls' High School in Cluj and in the 1950s for the High School of Arts . 

 Her first works were published  in the Dolgozó Nő and Napsugár columns. She illustrated regularly for the Tineretului and Ion Creangă Publishing Houses. Her books for children have been published in Romanian, Hungarian and German languages as co-author.
